We have been designing music workstation desks and studio furniture for two decades. Over that time we have overcome many of the hurdles that commonly afflict studio furniture and have built up a wealth of desk and technical furniture designs in order to provide tailor-made products for ergonomic perfection. From elegant studio racks to custom studio desks, we will work with you to find a solution that will last you a lifetime.

...the keyboard workspace is a thing of beauty. Studio furniture is usually ugly and practical; I now have a gorgeous space in which to work.

Ergonomic Excellence

Our furniture pieces are designed and built around the people who work with them. It is not enough for a piece of studio furniture to have enough space for all the equipment it is to house. It must give the user the freedom to be creative without the annoying ergonomic compromises that are so prevalent in mass-produced products.

Desks must be at the right height; computer keyboards and mice must be at the right level; MIDI keyboards must be in an appropriate playing position. A desk that is too high can lead to repetitive strain injury problems due to the unnatural positioning of the wrist; a lack of sufficient legroom is simply unsustainable in a creative environment. Getting these dimensions right has taken years because the tolerances are so narrow. So many of the elements are competing for the same space.

Quality components

Every design element in our furniture has been through dozens of iterations and we are always looking for better ways to do things.

Take our keyboard drawer. We have designed and built many desks with keyboard drawers and we have been through the full gamut of drawer slides before we came up with our own design. The problem with most keyboard drawers is that they use components that weren’t designed for very wide drawers, so when you come to use them you find you have to push or pull them in a certain place, otherwise they “crab” - one side pushes in too far, then you push the other side and that goes too far. Eventually the slides fail. Our keyboard drawer uses heavy duty steel slides that are synchronised, so that you can push or pull the drawer anywhere along its length and it will happily do as it’s told!

Fine finish

Our desks are designed at YTHQ and built by hand at our Hertfordshire joinery. On receiving a commission, we scrutinise and hone our design alongside the joiner and make regular inspections prior to finishing.

We offer numerous finish options for our desks, including a variety of laquered real wood veneers (normally with solid lipping), Forbo linoleum, hard-wearing textured paint and a wide variety of laminates. Our designs also utilise other materials including aluminium, steel and glass where appropriate.
