Podcast Studio Design & Installation
As the podcast sector has expanded in recent years, so has the demand for high quality content capture. As a result we’ve been working with more and more podcast creators at all levels of the industry.
As with other types of studio design, high quality audio recording is essential. Room acoustics, orientation, microphones, audio interfaces, headphones, audio wiring and studio furniture can all have a drastic effect on the on the overall content quality. There are typically numerous logistical demands for studios in this fast-paced area of the industry too. Ease of operation, speed of setup, editing workflow, and remote guests via phone or video call are all common considerations to be worked through with clients.
Increasingly, video capture is also a requirement; either for social media and marketing, or for full video podcast production. This in turn compels us to consider studio aesthetics, lighting, lines of sight and branding, as well as video editing hardware, software and workflow.
The scale of podcast studio setups vary greatly across the industry. In recent years we’ve assisted with everything from streamlined single-person, self-operation studios to 4-5 person interview environments with separate control rooms for producers and engineers.
Yellow Technology offer a start-to-finish turnkey solution for new podcast studios:- Consultation, design, build, installation and commissioning. We also offer upgrades, support and maintenance services to existing podcasters, consulting on everything from audio & video hardware to acoustic treatment; from mic & camera mounting to software workflow support.

At a bare minimum you can begin podcasting with a quiet space, a microphone and something to record to - often a computer although we’ve also consulted on podcast systems that don’t even require one of those!
Clearly, many setups will require much more to facilitate things like multiple guests, video capture, headphone routeing, branding and individual workflows.
Even if you are keen to implement a minimal podcasting setup or are on a strict budget there are a number of simple hacks for acoustics and workflow that can elevate the most basic of setups to a professional sounding content creation environment.
-
In some circumstances it may be possible to achieve good quality podcasting in an existing space for as little as £1000; although clearly, higher budgets are required to achieve a number of the features discussed above.
-
Absolutely! Although careful consideration of acoustics is key - it can be hard to achieve high production values in a domestic space without some level of acoustic treatment.
-
There are a number of hardware and software options for adding video cameras to podcast setups. If well configured, capturing video with your podcast audio can be relatively straightforward. That said, editing video for multi-camera podcasts can be time consuming - Yellow Technology have implemented a number of automatic editing tools to make this process easier, like configuring the video mix to automatically follow the guest that is speaking.
