Catching everyone by surprise, Apple has finally released Logic Studio 8 - shipping immediately.

Logic Studio 8 contains not only the long-awaited Logic Pro 8 update, but also SoundTrack Pro 2 - audio editing application, WaveBurner - CD burning application, MainStage - a live performance application, Compressor - for producing Dolby AC-3 files, and a huge 45GB sound library.

New features in Logic Pro 8 include:

Extensively reorganised user interface - you can do everything in the Arrange window now;
Built-in file browser - incorporating Apple's Spotlight search system (no more Project Manager);
Enhanced audio editing tools - including snap-to-transient, sample-accurate Arrange window editing and graphic timestretching;
Enhanced multiple take organisation;
'Quick Swipe' comping of multiple takes;
Surround tracks and busses;
No more XS Key;
Pro Tools TDM support for Intel Macs;
Third-party AU effect support with Logic Node;
Optimised mixer views - see the complete signal path for a track, including auxes and outputs.

Prices are now GBP 271.49+VAT for the full version, GBP 109.79+VAT for upgrades from Logic Pro, Platinum/Gold 5 or 6.
